The first annual USAPL Northeast Collegiate Conference Championship took place at Brown’s Gym in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. Lifters from Penn State, Northeastern University, and West Point met to determine the strongest team in the Northeast, as well as to preview competition for Collegiate Nationals.

The Northeastern University women’s powerlifting team beat out the Penn State squad to take home the championship trophy.

Distinguished lifters included Erika Myers who was awarded the best lifter award for her Wilks score of 454.526 (460kg/1,014lbs total). Christina Pollock of Penn State won a crowded 63kg/138lbs weight class with a total of 372.5kg/821lbs, beating out second place Sophie Veiras of Northeastern University who totaled 352.5kg/777lbs.

Liebert, who placed second at last year’s Collegiate Nationals in the 57kg/125lbs weight class, is certainly in the running for the national title with this recent display of strength. Monet Bland of Northeastern University also had a good day on the platform, winning her weight class (84kg/185lbs) with a total of 465kg/1,025lbs (Wilks score of 424.31).

A heated battle in the the 105kg/231lbs weight class featured Army lifter Adam Rubalcaba and Northeastern University’s Chris Hughes. Both lifters totaled 742.5kg/1,637lbs but Rubalcaba edged out Hughes with a higher Wilks total to take home first place. Other noted lifters included Nick Skursky (Penn State) total of 710kg/1,565lbs to lead the 83kg/183lbs weight class.

Meet Director Michael Zawilinski would like to thank Jim Brown of Brown’s Gym for allowing the schools to host the meet at his venue. He would also like to thank all of the referees, spotters and loaders, and technical staff for helping to make the inaugural Northeast Collegiate Conference Championship a success. Zawilinski looks forward to growing the sport of powerlifting within the Northeast, and he will seek to add more teams to next year’s meet in order to better display the athletes that live in the Northeast Conference.
